MEDEA
MEDEA (MEtodologías y herramientas De Enseñanza y Aprendizaje) is a platform for the creating of inteligent learning environments based on the reuse and integration of educational resources for the Web. The initial release is the outcome of TIC-2003-04480 (Agent-based web architecture for building distributed E-learning inteligent system). In the proyect TIC3243 (TIADA) working on extension of MEDEA framework, by incorporating new components, giving priority to the development of mechanisms for interoperability between MEDEA a Moodle platform. Subsequently, the project TIN2007-67515 (ARTEMIS) focuses on the development of student modeling components.MEDEA has had significant modifications aimed at providing a platform based on services. For this purpose, the platform has the following components:
- Samuel (spanish acronym for User Modeling Accumulative Server for E-Learning) provides the services which allow the accumulation of evidences of student knowledge from various learning resources, generating the students model.
- Ingrid (spanish acronym for Domain Independent Graphic Interface) provides the services necessary for graphical display of the level of knowledge (user modeling) acquired through E-learning system (Moodle or Siette) for editing.
Since the main objective of the project is its integration with E-learning systems, have been developed:
- a plugin for the Moodle platform, that allows interaction with the services provided by Samuel and Ingrid for the calculation and visualization of the model of the student;
- and, ISA Web application (spanish acronym for SAmuel Interface), which lets you take a first contact with the platform, without needing to develop integration interfaces, and test all services.
The development and improvement of the capabilities of the platform have been performed in the framework of the following projects:
- SCALe@rn (TSI-020311-2009-0006) financed by Ministery of Industry, Tourism and Trade. Its objective is development and intelligent management of formative soluctions adaptatives, scalables and costomizable to the needs and characteristics of each user. To archieve this, we design, implement and validate a meta-platform educational, focused on personalized learning.
- 3DTutor (IPT-2011-0889-900000) financed by Ministery of Economy and Competition and the European Regional Development Fund. The objetive of this project is to develop an intelligent tutoring and virtual asistance, that can be integrated into existing platforms different E-learning.
